Chris raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“They're supposed to sign the contract today.”
Chris paused.
The contract-right, Jackson was supposed to finalize it with the Lucano family today.
With that, he realized Jackson had probably gone to Mount Spring to meet them.

Chris stood up abruptly, grabbing his suit jacket from the back of the sofa.
“Mr. Ashford is on his way there too,” Kevin added.
Chris frowned. “My father is going?”
Kevin nodded. “Yes.”
Chris remained silent, realizing that the Lucano family must be there as well.

Her voice cracked, and she couldn't finish the sentence.
“My mother?” Chris asked, his voice tight.
Wasn't his father the one who'd sent someone over to the hospital?

His face darkened with anger.
“Mrs. Ashford cto see me,” Olivia continued, her voice full of emotion, now tinged with hurt.
From the sound of it, Grace had not visited Olivia kindly. The things she must have said were likely cruel.
Chris felt a headache coming on.
Before he could respond, Olivia spoke again, her voice full of distress. “Chris, can’t | be discharged?”
“Of course you can, just wait a little longer,” he replied.
“What about Whispering Bay?” Olivia asked, hesitant.
“The owner won't sell,” Chris said flatly. “I'll find another place for you.”
He had decided to give up on Whispering Bay.
He hadn't told Olivia that the house there was now owned by the man backing Stephanie, and she was currently
living there.
No matter what, the deal was out of reach for him.
“Oh,” Olivia said, a trace of disappointment in her voice. Her weakened state from her illness only made her
sound more vulnerable, evoking sympathy from anyone who heard.
But deep down, she was thinking about the bet she’d made with Stephanie and she had flaunted her victory.
Now, Chris was telling her that her chances of moving into Whispering Bay were gone for good.
Olivia was left breathless.

“Yes, but he hung up on me.”
