Chapter 248
Chapter 248
"Hayden has just finished his food. Let him rest and digest for a bit. Rowan didn't give up. "Ms. Joyner, I'm just
making casual conversation, that's all." His casual conversation felt like a laute stabbing into Lily's heart.
He said somente who truly loved her wouldn't mind covering her brother's medical expenses. Didn't he just
remind her that Xavier didn't love her?
Lily sat on the chair by the hospital bed. "Dr. Blackwood, | don't have the energy to talk about relationships right
now. All | care about is my brother's recovery."
"Let's say if someone helped you tremendously during your brother's recovery, would you be so moved that
you'd marry that person?" Rowan pressed on and expected her to say yes so he could shout out Xavier's name.
Lily was speechless. She stared at him ter a few seconds before replying. "No."
"Yes, Xa-" Rowan's phone suddenly rang before he could finish his words.

His phone rang relentlessly like an urgent summons. He had no choice but to answer. He glanced at the incoming
call and instinctively looked at Lily before walling out of the ward to take the call.
Rowan was a chatty person. He was able to strike up conversations w
with Lily during their past encounters. She didn't take his words earlier seriously
He returned with a strange expression about five or six minutes later, his brows shadowed by a hint of defeat.
"My assistant will bring over the supplies. Let's get started with the treatment. He had been ready to play a
matchmaker, but Xavier's phone call had completely derailed his plans
Rowan had seen people hiding their bad deeds, but never had he encountered someone who concealed their
good deeds so tightly.
He couldn't wrap his head around Xavier's insistence on keeping the truth about Hayden's treatment from being
revealed.
He had spent four minutes and 40 seconds trying to persuade Xavier in the five minute phone call.
Xavier warned him that he would destroy his lab if he dared to say a word.
The remaining ten seconds or so were Rowan begrudgingly agreeing to him and snapping back
"I'll recommend you an ophthalmologist when you regret your decision and cry your eyes out."
He camed a sour expression that even Lily could tell that he was in a foul mood.
She nervously cooperated with him during the treatment. He didn't talk to her like he used to during the entire
process.
The atmosphere was deathly silent. Moreover, Lily caught him looking at her several times as if he wanted to say
something but held back.
She couldn't help but ask when the treatment ended, "Dr. Blackwood, is there something you want to tell me?"
"No!" Rowan removed his white coat and fled from the ward. He lightly smacked himself on his lips twice once he
was outside. "Hold it in! You can't tell he

Lily was rendered speechless.
The caregiver walked in and said in a low voice, "Mrs Joyner has fallen asleep on the chair in the hallway. You
should quickly take her home. It's freezing out here. She might catch a cold." "Okay" Lily tumed back to look at
Hayden and tidied his short hair. "I'm leaving now. I'll cback to see you another day,"
Hayden unexpectedly nodded in agreement.
Her heart was filled with relief. She bent down to hug Hayden before standing up to tidy things up.
Hazel looked completely exhausted outside the ward. She slumped in a chair with her face facing upward,
sleeping without a care for her appearance. "Mom "Lily nudged her shoulder
Hazel jolted awake and was nearly sliding off the chair. She quickly got to her feet when Lily emerged from the
ward
What did Dr. Blackwood say just now? Has the treatment cost gone up again? Alas, your dad refuses to sell the
house. We're even struggling to take out 100 thousand dollars. You should stop fighting with Xavier and just go
back!"
