Chapter 100 Chapter 100 As Xavier walked past Sarah, he casually said, "Cwith me." Without hesitation, Sarah followed him.

The hallway outside the conference room was brightly lit, and Xavier's tall, broad-shouldered figure cut an imposing presence. His perfectly proportioned frwas the type that could make any woman swoon.

Just moments ago, he'd defended Sarah. Did that mean he actually cared? Sarah was moved and was no longer aggrieved.

In Xavier's office, Timothy held the door open as the former strode in, loosening his tie and sitting down at the long table.

"Xavier, I knew you-"Sarah followed, unable to hide her excitement as she spoke without thinking.

"This isn't your fault," he interrupted, unaware of her intentions. "If I hadn't wanted to teach Lily a lesson by having her go to you, I'd have rejected your resignation on the spot and avoided this mess entirely." Sarah stopped mid-sentence, her face going blank, as though she'd been struck by lightning.

Seeing her expression, Timothy tried to comfort her. "Ms. Lynde, we're Mr. Fulton's right-hand team. He'll always have our backs. There's no need to worry about those shareholders-they can go straight to Mr. Fulton if they have any complaints." Over the past two years, the shareholders hadn't managed to catch Xavier in any serious missteps, though they'd given Timothy plenty of trouble. At first, he'd had to ask Xavier for help when they'd backed him into a corner, but soon he'd learned to simply redirect the pressure back to Xavier.

Being loyal to him meant that he would handle any fallout.

"Right-hand team?" Sarah murmured.

Xavier lit a cigarette, smoke curling around him as he turned his gaze to Sarah. Her dazed look reminded him of Lily. He felt an ache at the memory of picking up a distraught Lily from the hospital entrance.

"Timothy, get in touch with the housekeeper at Fulton Manor," he said, "and arrange for a nanny to ctake care of Lily's and my daily needs." After giving the instructions, he realized he was thinking too much about Lily's recent requests, When Hayden had needed a lawyer, he'd been angry but had still let Alan assign their most experienced attorney, Sylvester, to it. Now, even though he hadn't let her words get under his skin, he was looking for a housekeeper as she'd requested. Maybe he just wanted life to settle back into a peaceful routine so he could focus on his work again. With that reason in mind, he felt reassured.

"Will do," Timothy said, taking out his phone to make a call to the housekeeper of Fulton Manor.

Sarah, unable to hold back, asked, "So... you two aren't... getting divorced?" "When did I ever say I'd divorce her?" He didn't hesitate. "It's nothing more than her acting out. This has nothing to do with you. Go back to work." He tapped his cigarette over the ashtray, brushing off the question.

"Why did you get married all of a sudden?" Sarah asked, clinging to a shred of hope. "Do you... love her?" Love? He paused, momentarily lost in thought. Before he could respond, Timothy finished his call and approached from the corner.

"Everything's set, Mr. Fulton. Any other instructions?"

Xavier snapped back to reality, waving his hand dismissively. No, that's alYou both can leave." No answer that had to mean he didn't love her. Sarah's face softened as she turned to leave.

He would always protect Timothy, of course; he was his assistant. But her situation was different-she was a En woman.

He'd promoted her and defended her, partly because she was his subordinate. But surely part of it had to be because he caked Men like Xavier didn't truly understand love, though. As long as he didn't fall for Lily, she still had a chance. Left alone, Xavier found himself fixated on Sarah's question. He couldn't shake it off.
