The acrid stench of blood mixed with the earthy, gunpowder-laden air surged into Hailey’s nostrils, searing her

lungs with every breath.

She could hardly breathe, feeling like the world was spinning uncontrollably.

Her ears rang with a deafening silence; she couldn't hear anything, couldn’t see anything, Desperately, she tried

to shout Owen’s name, but no sound left her lips.

It was a scream of terror without a voice.

In the haze, Hailey faintly heard the wailing sirens of police cars and the distant shouts of the crowd.

Then everything went black as she passed out.

When Gracie and the police arrived, they could hardly believe their eyes.

A warehouse had been reduced to rubble, engulfed in flames. The acrid scent of burning chemicals and

gunpowder hung heavy in the air, suffocating anyone nearby. The grass within a five-kilometer radius had been

scorched, and thick black smoke billowed into the sky.

Firefighters were swiftly working to contain the flames, launching a rescue operation.

The rescue efforts lasted for nearly three hours.

They found Hailey and Owen not far from the epicenter of the blast. Both were unconscious, but Owen's injuries

were severe, and he was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Later, another body was found-charred and unrecognizable-at the blast site. It was a woman, completely

obliterated by the explosion.

The news spread like wildfire. By that evening, it was all over the trending news and newspapers.

The question on everyone’s mind: where did the explosives cfrom?

Authorities quickly mobilized a team to investigate.

Hailey slept for a long time.

It wasn’t until two days later that she finally regained consciousness.

When she woke up, the smell of smoke and gunpowder still lingered in the air, clinging to her senses.

She stared blankly at the ceiling, still in a daze.

The door opened, and Raphael stepped into the room. As soon as he saw her eyes flicker open, he immediately

pressed the emergency button by her bed.

“Hailey, how do you feel? I've called for the doctor, they'll be here soon. Don’t worry,” Raphael said with a sense

of urgency.

Hailey blinked slowly, her eyes drifting toward him. A flash of confusion crossed her face. “What are you sa

Raphael's heart sank at her blank expression. “Hailey, can you hear me?” he asked softly.

Hailey just looked at him, still bewildered.

The doctors rushed in moments later, and began running a series of tests.

Raphael waited anxiously outside the room, and after nearly half an hour, the doctor finally emerged.

“The explosion’s sound was so loud, it temporarily impaired her hearing,” the doctor explained. “Don’t worry,

she'll recover soon. It should take about two to three days, or at most a week. She just needs to rest and recover.

Raphael let out a relieved sigh, nodding vigorously.

Once the doctor left, Raphael went back inside to check on Hailey.

She had fallen asleep again.

By 6 PM, Hailey finally woke up once more.

This time, she seemed much more alert.

Raphael jotted down notes on her condition.

Hailey hoarsely asked, “What about Owen?”

Raphael quickly scribbled down, “He's in the room next door, still unconscious.”

That was a relief. As long as he was alive, she could breathe easier.

Hailey exhaled deeply, a small weight lifting off her shoulders.

Raphael glanced at Hailey, his brow furrowing slightly.

If she saw Owen's condition now, she might just fall apart. His injuries were so severe, it was uncertain whether

he would survive.

Raphael made Hailey soatmeal and waited for it to cool before giving it to her.

She had inhaled too much smoke, and her throat was sore, leaving her voice raspy.

It would take tto heal.

After a week of rest, Hailey’s hearing gradually began to return, and her strength improved.

She was ready to leave the hospital.

Raphael advised her to stay longer in case of any lingering side effects, but Hailey insisted on going home.

Reluctantly, Raphael arranged her discharge.

After changing out of her hospital gown, Hailey decided to check on Owen in the room next door,

Though Owen had been right next door all week, Hailey hadn’t had the courage to see him.

Now that Gracie was his girlfriend, Hailey feared Gracie would hate her for even thinking about seeing him.

She had considered sneaking into his room in the middle of the night, even just to glance at the door, but every

tshe went to check, two bodyguards in black had been standing watch outside.

It seemed they were guarding against someone.

But now that she was about to be discharged, Hailey couldn't resist. Even if Gracie would yell at her, she had to

see him.

With determination, Hailey left her room and walked down the hall.

Just as she reached Owen's door, Gracie appeared from the side,

She was wearing a green dress, her slender figure looking slightly weary,

Upon seeing Hailey, Gracie’s expression grew complicated as she stopped in her tracks.

The two women locked eyes, an unspoken tension hanging in the air.

Hailey nervously spoke up. “Miss Burke, I'm sorry.”

Gracie sighed softly, her voice low. “You want to see him?”

Hailey nodded slightly, her head bowed.

“Cwith me,” Gracie said, her tone unexpectedly calm.

Hailey was taken aback, surprised by how easily Gracie had agreed.

She followed Gracie into the room.

As soon as she entered, Hailey almost collapsed.

The man lying on the hospital bed was hooked up to countless tubes. His chest was bare, and he lay face down

because his back had been severely burned and could not be supported.

Tears streamed down Hailey’s face uncontrollably. Her eyes were red, and she was on the verge of breaking

down.

“See? This is what he looks like now,” Gracie said quietly, her voice flat. “Hailey, he beclike this because of

you.”

Hailey cried out loud, unable to hold back her emotions.

Gracie sighed slowly, a touch of regret in her voice. “Actually, Owen and | only have a professional relationship.”

Hailey blinked, stunned. She looked up at Gracie.

Gracie met her gaze. “We're not in a romantic relationship. The reason he did all of this was to get back at you,

to make you cand fix things with him.”

“But how did he know | cback to Wothaland?” Hailey asked, confused.

“I don’t know. Wait until he wakes up, and you can ask him yourself,” Gracie replied, her tone serious. “But

Hailey, Owen loves you more than you think. Even though I shouldn't interfere, | hope you'll love him more.”

Hailey stood frozen, the shock of the revelation paralyzing her. She opened her mouth but couldn't find the

words to speak.

This had to be a dream.

She braced her forehead, taking a slow, deep breath.

How did things end up like this?

Tears once again flowed uncontrollably down her cheeks.

George, being older, had heard about the situation but couldn't make it to Hallon City. Just knowing Hailey was

there gave him scomfort.
