Chapter 127 I Envy You, Tiffany At the police station, Tiffany sat in the visitation room, staring at Bronte. Bronte looked like a ghost with dull eyes, dark circles, and pale skin, completely different from how she used to be.

"Bronte, you wanted to see me. What's up?" Tiffany kept her cool as she faced Bronte. Bronte looked up, meeting Tiffany's gaze, and a faint smile appeared. Her hands were still cuffed, but she managed to push a stray lock of hair behind her ear, revealing a faint mark where a tattoo had been removed.

Tiffany's eyes widened a bit. She knew Leon had mistaken Bronte for her because of that mark.

Bronte noticed Tiffany's surprise and slowly lowered her hand, looking at her with sincerity. There was a hint of bitterness in Bronte's voice as she gave a wry smile. "Tiffany, you might not know this, but I've always been jealous of you." "What could you possibly be jealous of?" Tiffany frowned, confused.

Bronte placed her hands on the table, nervously picking at her nails, like she was about to tell a long-lost story. "Do you remember? The first tI saw you was at university registration. That day, you lifted your hair, and the sunlight filtered through the trees, making you look like a painting. Someone even took a picture and posted it on the school forum. You becthe most beautiful person in our department." Tiffany remembered that. She hadn't meant to draw attention, and the photo had been taken without her knowing, causing her strouble. She wasn't comfortable with the attention and had the photo taken down quickly.

As for being called the most beautiful person in the department, Tiffany only found out much later. It was something the student council cup with, and she never paid much attention to it.

Bronte saw Tiffany's indifferent expression and couldn't help but smile. The tension she felt about revealing everything eased a bit. She had expected Tiffany to mock her, but Tiffany didn't.

Bronte took a deep breath and continued, "Tiffany, I wanted to be your friend, so at the basketball game, I finally got the courage to sit next to you, but you left as soon as you saw me. I thought you hated me." Tiffany was puzzled. She didn't remember this at all.

Bronte saw Tiffany's confusion and felt even worse, her voice growing more intense. "So you forgot about this? You never cared about me, Tiffany." Tiffany felt a headache coming on. It had all been a misunderstanding from the start. She explained, "That day, my roommate wasn't feeling well, so I left early. I must have been on the phone with her when you cover, and I was too worried to notice anything around me." Just a heads up: is the only place to read the complete version of this book for free. Looking back, Bronte realized she had been too petty.

Bronte sighed and continued, "But after that, I was convinced you hated me, so I never dared to approach you again. Even so, I still tried to imitate everything you did. When you liked Leon, I told myself I should like him too. When Leon got into trouble, I realized my feelings for him were because of you. Then you married Leon, and I saw you weren't happy with him. I becobsessed with everything about you. I wanted to know when you'd divorce him so I could take your place and show you I was doing well. But instead, I saw you and Leon in a passionate moment in the car at your birthday party five years ago." She added, "I thought Leon's indifference to you was an act. I drank a lot that night, thinking I'd never have a chance with him. But the next day, Leon surrounded the entire airport, looking for someone with a butterfly birthmark behind their ear. I thought it was funny because that was you. But then I realized Leon didn't love you. I thought it was my chance, but I waited for you to cback, to see Leon fall for me. But when Leon fell from the building, I finally understood he only ever loved you." She raised her voice, "That's why I envied and hated you, Tiffany. Why do you always get everything so easily? Why?" Bronte's emotions surged, and she stood up, slamming the table. The officers quickly restrained her, and she calmed down before sitting back down.

Tiffany took a few minutes to process everything Bronte had said. She hadn't realized Bronte had been so focused on her since college, even liking Leon because of her.

Tiffany sighed, her eyes softening. "Bronte, if you wanted to be friends, you could have just toldinstead of imagining things." Tiffany's gaze was sincere. If Bronte had spoken up, they might have becgood friends.

"I was too scared." Bronte's voice trembled, and she covered her face, crying. Tiffany hesitated focal m moment, then took a tissue from her bag and handed it to Bronte. Bronte took it, wiping her tears, and gradually calmed down.

Bronte's voice was raspy, and she struggled to smile. "Tiffany, you probably think I'm absurd, don't you? I'm absurd! For all these years, I've been trying to E mimic you just to gain sattention. I believed that if I becmore like you, people would finally see me. But in the end..." Tiffany shook her head slowly, her gaze steady. "Bronte, we can never be the same. It's your obsession that put you in this situation. When you get out of prison, be yourself and live your life well."

Bronte nodded, understanding. She had reached out to Tiffany because she wanted to let go. A small smile appeared on her face as she looked ted to let go at Tiffany. "I know you cto seebecause you want to know about that person, right?"
