Chapter 24 Sam Had a High Fever Damon saw Barry crying his eyes out. He was about to head to the study to tell Leon what was going on, but before he could, he heard Barry running upstairs.
In his room, Sam was curled up in the corner of the bed, clutching a pillow, sobbing so hard he was shaking.
He hated his dad and didn't want anything to do with him anymore! He didn't want them to make up! He just wanted to run away with his mom! The more Sam thought about it, the sadder he got. With Tiffany, he never experienced the kind of scolding or yelling he faced now.
Sam's heart was full of hate for Leon. He cried until he was completely worn out and dizzy. And he missed Tiffany more and more.
"Mommy... Mommy! I don't want Daddy anymore... I hate him..." Sam cried himself to sleep.
When Leon finished his work, it was already 8 PM. He cout of the study and saw Damon standing in the living room, looking worried and staring at Barry's room upstairs.
"What's up? Is he still throwing a fit?" Leon asked, frowning and looking confused.
"Mr. Cooper, Barry hasn't budged since you laid into him. He hasn't eaten, hasn't made a peep." Damon was worried Barry couldn't handle not eating.

"Even if he's sulking, he needs to think about his health." Leon frowned and went upstairs to knock on the door. But there was no response, just heavy silence.
Sensing something amiss, Leon pushed the door open. The room was dark, but Barry was typically afraid of the dark! Leon had a bad feeling and quickly turned on the light. Barry was lying on the bed, his breathing all over the place.
He hadn't heard the knocking, and it didn't seem like he was in a deep sleep.
Leon couldn't help but worry. He walked over, sat on the edge of the bed, patted Barry's shoulder, and called out, "Barry." Still no response. Leon knew something was wrong.
Barry's face was flushed. He reached out to touch it.
So hot! Leon didn't waste any time. He picked up Barry and rushed downstairs, grabbing the car keys from the table and tossing them to Damon.
"Mr. Cooper, what's wrong with Barry?" Damon saw Leon carrying Barry and knew something was up.
"Barry has a fever." Leon looked regretful.
Today, he had been too harsh on Barry. Barry was just a kid, and taking out his anger on him was unfair since Tiffany's issues were unrelated.
At that moment, Sam knew nothing, but lying on Leon's chest felt a bit more comfortable.
"Daddy... Mommy." Sam was still talking in his sleep, his fingers tightly clutching Leon's suit.

At the hospital, Leon took Barry to see a doctor. After taking his temperature, it was almost 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
"Kids can spike high fevers when they're scared or upset. Good thing you got him here in time. With the shot and scold medicine, he should bounce back." Hearing the doctor's words, Leon's face grew serious, and guilt gnawed at him. If he hadn't scolded Barry today, none of this would have happened.
Sam was curled up, burning with fever, still mumbling. "I don't want to be Barry anymore... I don't want to..... I want Mommy, I want to go back! Mommy..." Leon felt a pang of shhearing Barry's words.
Had he really been too harsh? But that woman had abandoned Barry so heartlessly. How could he let Barry go back to that nightmare? No way! "Barry, Daddy's here, Daddy's with you..." Leon whispered in his ear.
Sam, hearing this, seemed to remember being scolded by Leon and clutched Leon's clothes tightly, tears streaming down his face. "I don't want Daddy, Daddy is bad! I want Mommy." He cried sadly but soon fell back into a daze, drifting off to sleep.

Leon stayed with Barry until the IV was finished. When they left the hospital, Barry's fever had subsided. Back at the Cooper Mansion, Leon kept a close eye on him.

The doctor had cautioned that the fever might return at night, advising someone to stay with him and use a ΟΠΙ damp cloth to cool is forehead if it cloth to coal did. Damon heard these instructions and offered to take care of Barry for the night. But Leon refused, insisting on taking care of Barry himself. He wouldn't be at ease until Barry was better.
That night, Leon barely slept, checking Barry's temperature every two hours. At 6 AM, AM, Leen saw Barry still sleeping and went downstairs to Επ prepare his medicine. Damon had also prepared schicken soup for Barry since he could only eat light food now. Damon brought the bowl upstairs. As soon as he opened the door, he heard movement from the bed. "Are you still feeling unwell?" Damon asked softly. He approached the bed, placed the chicken soup on the bedside table, and looked at Barry's flushed face with concern.
"Damon, my head is so dizzy. And I think I dreamed of Daddy last night. He was holdingand tooksomewhere, saying a lot of things." Sam touched his head, feeling a bit confused.
Damon smiled, reaching out to touch Barry's forehead. The fever had finally subsided.
"You had a fever yesterday. Mr.
Cooper took care of you all night. He went to prepare your medicine, m Please don't be mad at Mr. Cooper anymore. He cares about you a lot." Damon picked up the bowl, scooped a spoonful of chicken soup, blew it to a suitable temperature, and brought it to Barry's mouth. Sam opened his mouth and took a sip, thinking about what Damon had said. Daddy had been taking care of him? So last night wasn't a dream. He had thought Daddy was mad at him and wouldn't care about him anymore.
After Sam finished the soup, Leon brought the medicine, thoughtfully preparing a piece of candy.
"Daddy," Sam called out timidly.
Leon sat on the edge of the bed and handed him the medicine. "Take your medicine first. When you're feeling better and hungry, just tell Damon to take you out to get whatever you're craving." Sam's eyes lit up. He blinked mischievously, grabbed Leon's arm, and asked excitedly, "Does this mean Daddy is lettinggo out?"
